How to Raise a Family for Life: The Child Parenting Influence of Motherhood

As mothers, we want our children to grow into loving, respectable, independent adults.  We want to know that we have raised them to be active members of their communities, with good work ethics and family values.

Our job, however, does not stop after the children move into a home of their own.  Child parenting, does not stop as they become young adults, it just changes form.  They still need to be loved and guided, but in a different, more adult way.   Young adults that are entering a new and exciting phase in their lives need encouragement and love affirming moments to help them keep their self confidence and self esteem at the same high levels that they are used to.

As your children grow into young adults, it is a wonderful idea to continue to send "I Treasure You" notes with encouraging messages.  These love affirming messages can be sent the old-fashioned way, by using the post office, or even pre-writing several notes and then labeling an envelope with a date to open.  Everyone loves to receive mail and an "I Treasure You" note card may arrive on a day when things are not going so well for your child. Receiving an affirming "I Treasure You" note does so much toward building children up, to showing them that they are competent adults, even when they stumble.

When sending an affirming note by mail, it is important to choose your words carefully.  All too often, unintended meanings can be read into a message, this is especially true if you are trying address a sensitive issue with your adult child.  Try to keep these "I Treasure You" notes light and friendly, and be authentic with your words. Children of any age have a wonderful knack of absorbing their mother's kind words, especially when they are written. They don't have to remember your spoken words, because they can read and relish your written words.

A mother’s family influence is often greater as the young adults begin to have families of their own.  When grand children become part of the picture, it is moms responsibility to teach her children the same love affirming "I Treasure You" techniques that she has used for them.

Using "I Treasure You" notes and cards play such an important part in letting children know that they are loved, respected and needed by their parents and grandparents.  Children never outgrow their need for their parents' love and support. A simple message on an "I Treasure You" card can lift their spirit and let them know (no matter their age) that you believe in them and that they can take on the world and win.
